A female nursing student from Thrissur, Kerala, has leveled serious allegations of sexual harassment and mental torture against the chairman and principal of Mount Shepherd Nursing College in Bengaluru. The victim revealed that she faced continuous harassment from the college chairman, Walter Jesim, since her first year, and was later forced out of the institution without being allowed to write her exams when she resisted.
According to the student, the chairman frequently made inappropriate comments, comparing her to his former girlfriend, and forced her to visit his cabin. When she reported the harassment to the college principal, Sasikala, who is also the chairman’s wife, she was told that she must comply with the chairman’s demands if she wished to complete her degree and receive her certificate. Following her resistance, the college management allegedly targeted her by demanding advance fees, spreading false rumors that she was mentally unstable and a drug user to isolate her from her peers, and ultimately withholding her exam hall ticket.
Despite filing a police complaint in April, the victim faced severe delay from the Karnataka police, who only registered a case against Walter Jesim and Sasikala after intervention from Malayalam NGOs. Although her Section 164 statement has been recorded, no arrests have been made. Seeking justice and hoping to continue her studies at another college under the same university, the student has reached out to political leaders in Kerala, including Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan, to pressure the Karnataka government for immediate action.
