CM VD Satheesan Explains Cabinet Decisions on Pariyathukavu and Key Issues

Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan addressed the media following a cabinet meeting, providing detailed explanations on several key decisions and responding to questions on critical issues facing the state.

Pariyathukavu Eviction and Rehabilitation

On the Pariyathukavu issue, where a High Court order has directed the eviction of families from the land, the CM stated that the government has decided to rehabilitate the affected families if the court order is implemented. He noted that the previous government had made 14 attempts to execute the eviction over a decade but never offered any rehabilitation package. In contrast, the current government is prepared to provide alternative land and housing if the eviction proceeds, ensuring no family is left homeless.

The CM revealed that the government has already held discussions with both the affected families and the petitioner to explore a settlement, and has sought the Advocate General’s opinion on the legal position.

Guruvayur Temple Visit Controversy

Responding to controversy over his recent visit to Guruvayur Temple, CM Satheesan dismissed allegations of disrupting devotees as false. He clarified that he purchased a Rs 1,000 VIP darshan ticket and waited in line like any other devotee. He stated that his visit was a simple, respectful one and that security personnel briefly stopped him near the sub-deities, but he continued with his darshan without causing any inconvenience to other devotees.

Waqf Board Land Registration

The CM criticized the previous government’s Waqf Board for allegedly registering disputed land on the Waqf portal, calling it a politically motivated move. He accused the previous dispensation of creating communal division and said the current government will take appropriate legal steps to address the situation.

Land Reforms and Other Issues

Satheesan announced that the government is working on major amendments to land reform laws to ease the burden on people facing land-related issues, particularly in areas like Idukki. He also said strict action will be taken against tax evasion and that the government will enhance revenue collection.

On other matters, the CM stated that police prosecution appointments will be made in due course, the government is reviewing the farmers’ report on paddy procurement, and that the SIT investigation into a recent incident is ongoing and a report is awaited.
