Congress High Command to Monitor Satheesan Government Following Appointment Controversies

The Congress High Command has decided to strictly monitor the functioning of the VD Satheesan-led UDF government in Kerala following a series of controversial appointments that damaged the coalition’s image. Under the direct supervision of AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, the party has mandated that all major administrative appointments must receive prior approval from the KPCC. A permanent coordination mechanism between the government and the party will soon be established to prevent such lapses in the future.

The controversy erupted after Minister Sunny Joseph appointed his brother-in-law to his personal staff, and Adv. KV Pradeep, who represented an accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case, was appointed as the Devaswom Special Pleader in the Advocate General’s office. Although both appointments were quickly revoked by the Chief Minister, the incident drew heavy criticism from within the party, with Youth Congress leaders publicly expressing their discontent on social media over favoritism.

Taking advantage of the situation, Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that secret Sabarimala documents might have been accessed by the controversial lawyer, accusing the government of trying to sabotage the gold theft case. Meanwhile, internal friction has also risen within the ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), where ministers allegedly bypassed party-approved candidate lists to appoint retired officials of their choice, sparking protests among active party workers in northern districts like Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kasaragod.
