The Kerala Police and legal authorities have intensified actions against the political workers arrested for attacking Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Thiruvananthapuram. The attack occurred following ED raids at the residences of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and locations linked to his daughter, Veena Vijayan, in connection with the CMRL case.
During the incident, a mob pelted stones and used sticks to damage three vehicles hired by the ED, injuring central security personnel, officers, and drivers. While the arrested party workers expected quick bail, the court rejected their bail applications, terming the assault a serious offense against the nation. The police are now fast-tracking the chargesheet to prevent the accused from securing regular bail, amid concerns that the case could be transferred to central agencies like the CBI or NIA, potentially moving the accused to out-of-state prisons like Tihar Jail.
The ED’s investigation has intensified with the freezing of 242 bank accounts linked to Veena Vijayan, containing an estimated Rs 19 crore. Although a temporary court stay has halted further actions until Friday, the agency is preparing to inspect bank lockers and potentially take custody of Veena Vijayan for questioning once the court proceedings conclude.
