Gautam Adani and Zhang Yiming Overtake Mukesh Ambani in Asia’s Wealth Rankings

In a major shift in Asia’s wealth rankings, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has been overtaken by both Indian industrialist Gautam Adani and ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming. According to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Gautam Adani has claimed the top spot as Asia’s richest individual, while Chinese tech entrepreneur Zhang Yiming has secured the second position, pushing Ambani to third place.

Zhang Yiming’s rise to the second spot comes on the back of the massive success of ByteDance, the parent company of the global short-video platform TikTok. Driven by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and the popularity of its AI conversational system “Doubao,” which boasts over 300 million monthly active users in China, Zhang’s net worth has surged to $92.8 billion. This represents a staggering growth from March 2019, when Bloomberg first valued his wealth at just $13 billion.

Meanwhile, Gautam Adani leads the list with a net worth of $117.4 billion, while Mukesh Ambani’s wealth stands at $86.9 billion. The valuation of ByteDance also saw a boost after political uncertainties in the United States eased; Bloomberg reduced its valuation discount on the company from 25% to 10% following share sales to American investors. This shift highlights a broader global trend where digital technology, AI, and modern platforms are rapidly creating wealth faster than traditional industries.
