An Indian marine engineer, Patnala Suresh, was killed along with two other Indian sailors during a US military attack on the oil tanker MT Stabello in the Gulf of Oman. The tragic incident occurred as the US military targeted the vessel as part of its efforts to enforce sanctions on Iranian oil shipping, a claim strongly disputed by the ship’s management.
Suresh’s final phone call to his wife, Bhargavi, has left his family in deep grief. Despite acknowledging the security threats in the region, the 39-year-old engineer had assured his wife not to worry and promised to return home to celebrate their upcoming 15th wedding anniversary. Bhargavi and their two children are now struggling to cope with the sudden loss, especially after losing contact with him when communication lines went silent after June 9.
According to the ship’s management, Suresh was inspecting a generator malfunction when the attack took place, leaving him with no opportunity to escape. The attack also claimed the lives of two other Indian sailors: 29-year-old Aditya Sharma from Himachal Pradesh and 35-year-old Shivanand Chaurasia from Uttar Pradesh. Suresh’s family, including his father Ramakrishna, is now appealing to the Indian government to repatriate his body and provide financial assistance.
