In two separate shocking incidents in northern Kerala, the police have seized over one crore rupees of unaccounted cash from a car in Kasaragod, and launched an intense investigation into the violent hijacking and robbery of a gold merchant’s car in Kannur.
During a routine vehicle inspection at Thrikkannad in Bekal, Kasaragod, the police intercepted a car and recovered ₹1,17,50,000 hidden in a specially designed secret compartment under the rear seat. The driver, Abdul Khader from Melparamba, was detained. The Bekal police suspect the money was being transported for distribution to various individuals and have initiated a detailed probe into the source of the funds.
Meanwhile, in Kannur’s Pilathara, a six-member gang traveling in two Innova cars blocked a Grand Vitara car carrying Maharashtra-based gold merchant Kumar Jalandhar Nigam, his family, and a friend. The attackers smashed the car window, forced the occupants out, snatched a 25-gram gold necklace from the merchant’s wife, and fled with the car. The vehicle was later found abandoned near Pilathara Co-operative College with bloodstains inside and belongings scattered. The Pariyaram police have registered a case, suspecting the involvement of gold smuggling syndicates.
