Kerala Faces Severe Drug Menace: Call for United Fight Against Drug Mafia

Kerala is facing a critical challenge with the rapid spread of drug abuse, threatening the state’s future and its youth. Speaking at the inauguration of an anti-drug campaign, leaders highlighted the urgent need for a collective and uncompromising battle against the drug mafia to safeguard the state’s demographic dividend.

While Kerala historically leads the nation in literacy, education, and health indices, the rising prevalence of narcotics has emerged as a dark stain. The drug mafia is actively targeting school children and young individuals under a sinister “catch them young” strategy. This addiction has also led to an increase in brutal crimes, including a shocking incident where a drug addict murdered his own mother.

To combat this crisis, the state has initiated comprehensive campaigns like “Operation Toofan Narco-Hunt.” The speaker emphasized a two-pronged approach: strict enforcement by the police and excise departments to break the drug supply chain, and widespread awareness programs involving parents, teachers, local bodies, and NGOs.
