The Kerala Police has launched a comprehensive joint initiative named ‘Operation Toofan’ aimed at completely eradicating the drug menace in the state. Jointly implemented by the police, excise, education, and health departments, the project has been introduced to dismantle organized networks targeting the state’s youth. IG Intelligence Vimaladitya IPS has been appointed as the nodal officer to lead this state-wide campaign.
Speaking at the launch, authorities issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, emphasizing that law enforcement will act without considering status, wealth, or position. Special instructions have been given to the Cyber Cell to track the digital footprints of transactions happening on the Dark Web. Furthermore, strict inspections will be conducted across all sectors, including caravans, five-star hotels, and DJ parties, with absolutely no exemptions for anyone.
To ensure the success of Operation Toofan, the government has called for active public cooperation. Several mobile applications have been introduced for the public to share information about drug sales, with a firm assurance that the identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential. Additionally, the government warned of severe action against any police officers who attempt to disrupt or compromise the operations of this mission.
