Heavy Rain Alerts Issued Across Kerala as Monsoon Intensifies

Kerala is experiencing intense monsoon rains, prompting authorities to issue orange alerts for multiple districts across the state. Today, eight districts from Ernakulam northward are under an orange alert, which will expand to eleven districts tomorrow, excluding Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha. Extremely heavy downpours, accompanied by strong winds and lightning, are expected to continue until the 8th of this month.

In response to the severe weather conditions, the state government has established 24-hour control rooms in all districts. Residents seeking assistance can reach out via the toll-free numbers 1077 and 1070. Additionally, a strict fishing ban remains in effect along the Kerala coast due to rough sea conditions.

Localized flooding has already been reported in low-lying areas, including Tripunithura’s Edampadam region, where water entered several homes and prompted municipal authorities to initiate relocation and mitigation efforts. While the water level in the Periyar river remains normal for now, coastal residents have been advised to stay vigilant. Authorities have also urged people to avoid night travel in hilly regions such as Muvattupuzha and Perumbavoor due to the high risk of landslides.
