A differently-abled woman in Kozhuvalloor, Alappuzha, has drawn local attention for independently conducting daily rituals and pujas at a serpent shrine (Nagathara) built adjacent to her home. Wheelchair-bound since birth, she manages all the elaborate temple rites herself, offering spiritual guidance and solace to visitors seeking relief from chronic illnesses.
Decades ago, she suffered from severe health issues, with doctors diagnosing her with terminal cancer and predicting she had very little time left. Believing in a deep, direct spiritual connection with serpent deities who she claims communicated with her, she persisted through her illness. Following astrological consultations which identified the land as a sacred serpent abode, she established the shrine featuring idols of Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, and Chitrakoodam with the help of a local priest.
Today, she performs daily abhishekams, cleans the idols, and makes traditional offerings entirely on her own. Visitors from various places seek her blessings, receiving consecrated ash and threads to alleviate their difficulties. Her activities are supported by the local priest, who emphasizes that her sincere devotion, simple lifestyle, and natural spiritual gift transcend conventional ritual boundaries.
