Performing a family offering, known as Kudumba Pooja, at specific prominent temples in Kerala is believed to alleviate severe hardships, domestic struggles, and financial difficulties, ushering in prosperity and peace for the household. According to spiritual guidance, families facing persistent obstacles and lack of progress can find immense relief by performing these rituals at any one of five designated temples in the state.
To perform this offering effectively, certain traditional rules must be observed. All available members of the household should visit the temple together after keeping a strict fast the previous night, which includes abstaining from non-vegetarian food, onions, and garlic. When booking the offering, the names and birth stars (nakshatras) of all family members, including those residing abroad, must be registered on the receipt. After the prayers, the family must return directly to their home, place the sacred prasadam in their prayer area for 24 hours, and later discard the flowers and leaves near a Tulsi plant.
The five recommended temples and their specific offerings are: Chettikulangara Devi Temple in Alappuzha (Kudumbarchana with a red Thechi garland), Lokanarkavu Temple in Kozhikode (Oru Nerathe Pooja with a red garland), Thirumandhamkunnu Temple in Malappuram (Kudumbarchana), Sharkara Devi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram (individual Kumkumarchana for all members with a hibiscus garland), and Chottanikara Devi Temple in Ernakulam (Moolamantra Pushpanjali with a red garland and coin offerings). Performing these rituals even once is said to bring a visible positive transformation and long-term blessings to the entire family.
