A major tragedy was averted on the Aluva-Edayappuram road in Kerala when a prompt mini-lorry driver rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler who had wandered out of a pre-school and onto a busy road. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 AM, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread discussions about child safety and supervision.
According to reports, the child managed to slip out through the open gate of a nearby pre-school unnoticed by the staff. The school authorities later explained that the gate had been left open due to ongoing painting work on the premises. As the toddler stepped onto the road, the driver of an oncoming mini-lorry spotted the child, immediately honked, and brought the vehicle to a halt. The driver and the cleaner then rushed out, secured the child, and safely handed him back to the school authorities.
This incident comes closely on the heels of a similar scare in Kondotty, Malappuram, where an infant under one year old crawled onto a busy road from a nearby house. In that instance, the driver of a private bus stopped his vehicle across the road to block traffic, while the conductor rescued the baby. These back-to-back incidents have prompted local residents and parents to demand stricter safety measures, such as dedicated security personnel at school gates and increased vigilance at homes near major roads.
