Mohanlal, the legendary actor of Malayalam cinema, celebrated his birthday on May 21. However, this year’s celebration was markedly different and emotional, as his beloved mother passed away just a few months ago.

Despite the absence of grand celebrations at home, Mohanlal’s wife Suchitra made sure the day was special. She maintained the tradition that Mohanlal’s mother had always followed — she went with Mohanlal to light a lamp and pray near his mother’s photo.

Suchitra prepared a traditional feast (sadya) and presented Mohanlal with a beautiful framed picture of him with his mother. It was a touching gesture that deeply moved the actor, who has always been known for his immense love and attachment to his mother.

For years, Mohanlal’s mother had been bedridden, and after much persuasion, she moved from Thiruvananthapuram to live with him in Kochi. No matter how busy his schedule was, Mohanlal would always rush to his mother’s side after work, holding her hands and finding comfort in her presence.

This birthday, although marked by the pain of losing his mother, became memorable thanks to Suchitra’s thoughtful efforts to honour both her husband and the memory of his mother.
