Smart Monsoon Hacks for Quick Clothes Drying and Kitchen Management

The monsoon season brings welcome relief from the heat, but it also introduces common household challenges like damp clothes, slow-drying laundry, and kitchen moisture. Simple, innovative hacks using everyday appliances like electric kettles and colanders can significantly ease these seasonal troubles.

To dry thick items like socks quickly, you can boil water in an electric kettle, empty it, and place the damp garment over the hot outer surface of the kettle, turning it every two minutes. For regular laundry, placing a strainer over a bucket and laying clothes loosely allows excess water to drain completely before hanging them under a fan. Additionally, if you forget to soak chickpeas (kadala) overnight, you can quickly plump them up in 15 to 30 minutes by adding hot water, a pinch of baking soda, and salt inside a closed rice cooker.

Other useful monsoon tips include scrubbing cutting boards with tea powder, salt, and lemon peel to prevent mold and bad odors, and keeping them near the gas stove to dry. For health, a warm drink made with roasted and crushed black cumin (karinjeerakam) can boost immunity and relieve seasonal colds and coughs.
