Muvattupuzha School Transforms into a Mini India with Only Two Malayali Students

The Government Teachers Training UP School in Muvattupuzha, Kerala, has transformed into a vibrant “Mini India,” with only two Malayali students enrolled out of a total of 68. The remaining 66 students are children of migrant workers from various Indian states, including West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu.

This school was once on the verge of closure with just 13 students. However, the influx of children from other states has revitalized the institution, bringing the current student strength to 68, including eight new admissions this year. With the increase in students, the school’s facilities have improved, and it now has seven permanent teachers for seven divisions, according to Principal P.S. Shiyas.

Notably, this government school holds a rich legacy as the place where renowned Malayalam poet Mahakavi G. Sankara Kurup received his early education. Teachers note that language is not a barrier for these children, who show great enthusiasm in learning Malayalam and other subjects, fostering a beautiful environment of cultural integration.
