The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the death of Naveen Babu, a case with significant political implications in Kerala. The move is seen as a major blow to the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPIM], which had been accused of interference in the probe.
According to reports, the court had previously directed the production of phone records of Divya, a key figure in the case, but these were allegedly withheld. The officer who initially investigated the case was later fielded as a CPIM candidate, raising questions about the integrity of the earlier probe. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that handled the case is now under scrutiny for allegedly attempting to cover up the death.
The CBI’s entry is expected to bring hidden evidence to light. A formal notification is anticipated soon. The investigation, which had been criticized for its bias, now appears to be turning around with the new agency at the helm.
