In a shocking revelation regarding the tragic death of one-and-a-half-year-old Arshid in Nedumangad, a relative has disclosed that the stepfather’s extreme cruelty was motivated by a property dispute and personal vengeance. The prime accused, Ashkar, allegedly harbored a deep grudge against the child’s grandmother, Reena, after she refused his demands for land registered in the mother’s name and reportedly assaulted him during a dispute.
The post-mortem report revealed that the toddler suffered 91 injuries, including seven broken ribs caused by a brutal kick to the chest, which ultimately led to internal organ damage and death. The police, led by the Nedumangad DySP, have intensified the investigation, adding charges under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act against Ashkar. The probe has also been extended to Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, to verify the whereabouts of the child’s mother, Akhila, who currently faces charges of abetment.
According to family accounts, Ashkar initially presented himself as a well-mannered, educated individual to win the family’s trust, even pretending to care deeply for the child. However, police investigations have revealed a history of him deceiving women for money under the guise of marriage proposals. The child’s grandmother recalled that the toddler had recently started crying in fear whenever Ashkar was near, raising early suspicions that were tragically realized.
