Heartbreaking Suicide Note of Kasaragod Expatriate Found in Oman Sparks Grief

A tragic incident has deeply saddened the expatriate community in Oman after a 36-year-old Malayali youth, Harish Kumar, was found dead in Jalan Bani Bu Ali. Harish, a native of Chamundikunnu in Kasaragod, Kerala, worked as a salesman in a local shop. A poignant suicide note recovered from his pocket has exposed the silent struggles and severe emotional distress faced by some expatriates living far from home.

The emotional weight of the tragedy came to light through a Facebook post by Ibrahim Ottappalam, a well-known social worker and Muscat KMCC Care Wing Chairman. Ibrahim, who has coordinated repatriation procedures for hundreds of deceased expats over the years, revealed that Harish’s final note was uniquely heartbreaking. In the note, Harish expressed a desire for his body to be donated to a medical college for research purposes, asking his mother to be informed of this final wish so that he could be of help to others even after death.

The tragic news was first communicated to Ibrahim by Harish’s Omani sponsor, who discovered the body and subsequently found the crumpled note in the young man’s pocket. The sponsor sent a photograph of the note via WhatsApp, seeking guidance on how to proceed, and handed over the family’s contact details to Ibrahim to manage the necessary legal and repatriation formalities. Harish was the son of Mohanan and Jayashree from Pullikkavu Vellavoor House in Kasaragod.
