Kerala has launched ‘Operation Toofan’, a comprehensive initiative aimed at dismantling the drug mafia and curbing the rising menace of substance abuse in the state. The mission seeks to protect the state’s youth and address the alarming rise in drug-related crimes through strict enforcement and widespread public awareness.
While Kerala leads the nation in education, literacy, and healthcare indexes, the growing spread of narcotics has emerged as a critical challenge. The drug mafia is actively targeting the state’s demographic dividend—its youth, who make up 60 to 65 percent of the population. This addiction has triggered a shift toward brutal crimes, devastating families who often suffer in silence.
Operation Toofan operates on a two-pronged strategy: uncompromising enforcement by the Police and Excise departments to break the supply chain, and extensive awareness campaigns involving teachers, parents, local bodies, and NGOs. This collaborative mission aims to unite all sectors of society to safeguard the future of Kerala’s youth.
