Police have intensified the investigation into the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials who conducted a raid at the residence of Kerala’s Leader of Opposition, Pinarayi Vijayan. So far, 17 people have been arrested, including Palayam Local Committee member IP Binu, and they remain in judicial custody. The attack occurred after the ED team concluded the search and was leaving the premises.
The assailants, allegedly DYFI and CPI(M) workers, damaged three vehicles and injured four ED officials. Retired SP George Joseph noted that the attack happened in the presence of senior CPI(M) leaders, including state secretary MV Govindan. He argued that the police failed to prevent the violence and that the case involves serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.
Joseph also highlighted that the ED investigation into Veena Vijayan’s accounts has uncovered suspicious transactions. Over ₹2.72 crore was transferred to her account from Exalogic Solutions, a company linked to CMRL. Additionally, ₹18.36 crore in a related account has been frozen. The presence of foreign exchange transactions could bring the case under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), potentially leading to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) taking over the probe. If so, the accused may be transferred to Tihar Jail in Delhi.
