Scientific Discoveries Confirm the Existence of the Lost Saraswati River

Scientific research and satellite imagery have confirmed the existence of the ancient Saraswati River, a major water body previously dismissed by many historians as a mere mythological legend from the Mahabharata. Satellite data from ISRO and NASA, combined with geological studies, have mapped the path of this massive river that once flowed from the Himalayas to the Arabian Sea.

According to the Mahabharata, Lord Balarama witnessed the gradual drying up and ultimate disappearance of the Saraswati River during his pilgrimage. Modern scientific investigations have validated this description, revealing a giant paleochannel running beneath the Thar Desert through Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Testing of groundwater from desert wells in these areas revealed ancient, pure Himalayan glacial water, proving a massive Himalayan river once flowed there.

Researchers discovered that tectonic shifts and climate changes diverted the river’s primary water sources, the Yamuna and Sutlej, into the Ganga and Indus basins. This diversion led to the gradual drying of the Saraswati over centuries. Additionally, evidence shows that a majority of the Harappan civilization sites were located along this dried riverbed, indicating that the Saraswati River once sustained one of ancient India’s most prosperous civilizations.
