In Hindu tradition, Goddess Lakshmi is revered as the deity of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. It is believed that households blessed with her presence never face a shortage of food or money. Before Goddess Lakshmi enters a home, certain auspicious signs and changes manifest in the household and its surroundings, signaling the arrival of good times and divine blessings.
One of the primary signs is the appearance of an owl, which is considered the vehicle of Goddess Lakshmi, near the house during the daytime, though its arrival at night is traditionally viewed as unfavorable. Additionally, sudden changes in dietary habits—such as family members feeling completely satisfied with very small portions of food, and developing a strong preference for vegetarian meals and fruits over non-vegetarian food—indicate her sacred presence. Other positive indicators include hearing the sacred sound of a conch shell early in the morning, noticing an abundance of green color in the surroundings, and seeing beautifully bloomed flowers upon stepping outside.
Dreams also serve as important indicators of the Goddess’s blessings. Dreaming of Goddess Lakshmi herself is considered an extremely rare and highly auspicious sign of oncoming prosperity. Similarly, dreaming of oneself sweeping and cleaning the house with a broom—a tool closely associated with Goddess Lakshmi—is believed to foretell sudden wealth accumulation and the beginning of a fortunate phase in life.
