Seven Trapped in Gold Mine Cave for a Week

Seven people who entered a cave in search of gold have been trapped for a week in a narrow, water-filled tunnel in a mountainous region near Sayzan Lake, a province known for rich mineral deposits. Rescue operations are underway but are hampered by the difficult conditions.

The tunnel, part of a 340-meter cave system, is only 60 centimeters wide in sections and is completely filled with water and darkness. Rescuers have installed cables to reach a middle crevice and are using large water pumps to drain the area. A special team has been deployed to explore alternative entrances, while authorities have issued strong safety warnings about gold mining in the area. The incident recalls a similar 2018 event in northern Thailand, where a youth football team was trapped in a cave for two weeks, requiring a complex international rescue effort.
