Silver Line Replacement: Kerala Government Seeks E. Sreedharan’s Help for High-Speed Rail Project

The Kerala government is reportedly planning to replace the Silver Line semi-high speed rail project with a high-speed rail alternative and is seeking the expertise of renowned engineer E. Sreedharan, popularly known as India’s Metro Man.

The Silver Line project, which aimed to connect Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod with semi-high speed trains, has faced prolonged delays and controversies. Now, sources indicate that the government is exploring a faster alternative and wants Sreedharan’s guidance on the technical and feasibility aspects.

E. Sreedharan, who led the construction of the Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro, is widely respected for his project execution capabilities. Opposition leader VD Satheesan has also been vocal on the issue, demanding clarity on the government’s railway infrastructure plans.

The move signals a potential major shift in Kerala’s railway infrastructure strategy, with the government looking to deliver a more modern and efficient transportation network for the state.
