According to traditional Malayalam astrology, eight specific star signs (Nakshatras) have a special connection with snakes, making them more likely to encounter serpents in their daily lives. This belief, rooted in the concept of Sarpa Dosha (snake affliction), suggests that individuals born under these stars may experience frequent snake sightings or dreams as a spiritual reminder.
The eight star signs are: Ayilyam, Anizham, Chathayam, Thiruvathira, Vishakham, Pooram, Uthram, and Karthika. Each has unique astrological influences, primarily from Rahu, Ketu, and Saturn, which are believed to create a karmic bond with snakes. Remedies include visiting snake groves (Sarpa Kavu), offering milk, performing specific poojas like Rahu Shanti or Rudrabhishekam, and reciting mantras. A common remedy for all is to perform milk abhishekam at a snake shrine on Nag Panchami day. Another simple ritual involves using an egg to absorb negative energies by rotating it around the body clockwise three or seven times while focusing on the serpent deity, then breaking it at the base of a tree.
