A 19-year-old woman gave birth in the toilet of Haripad Taluk Hospital on [date], allegedly abandoning the newborn. The baby was later found alive outside a window after hospital staff heard cries.

The woman had come to the hospital complaining of abdominal pain, accompanied by her father and sister. She told doctors she had menstrual issues. While waiting for examination, she went to the toilet and locked herself in. When she did not come out, staff forced the door open and found blood stains. They then heard a baby’s cry from outside the window and discovered the infant, weighing 3.2 kg and fully developed, lying on the ground. The baby was given first aid and found to have injuries consistent with being pulled through a window.

The mother and baby were later transferred to Alappuzha Medical College. The baby has been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee. The father and sister reportedly fainted upon learning the news. Police have registered a case of attempted murder.
