Vaikasi Visakam 2026: Rituals and Prayer Methods for Lord Murugan

Vaikasi Visakam, the sacred day commemorating Lord Murugan’s divine appearance as a Jyoti (light), falls on May 29-30, 2026. This year, the Visakam star begins on Friday, May 29 at 10:40 AM and ends on Saturday, May 30 at 1:30 PM. Devotees observe this festival to seek blessings for marital harmony, progeny, career growth, and relief from sins.

On Friday, devotees should visit a temple housing Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, and Murugan to pray, as the conjunction of Venus (Friday’s ruler) and Jupiter (Visakam’s lord) brings prosperity. Lighting a lemon lamp during Rahu Kalam on Friday is highly beneficial. Saturday is the main day for Murugan worship, where abhishekam with rose water, curd (for progeny), or vibhuti (for sin removal) is performed.

At home, draw a six-pointed star (shatkona) with rice flour, write ‘Sharavana Bhava’ in each corner and ‘Om’ in the center. Light six earthen lamps facing you (never south) and offer archana with bilva leaves, chanting the six-fold mantra. Recite Kumarastavam once and offer naivedyam of honey with saffron, jaggery pongal, or foxtail millet. On Saturday morning (5-8 AM), chant the ten lines of Skanda Guru Kavacham facing the sun for divine protection.
