According to Vastu Shastra, the main door of a house, known as the Simhadwaram, is the primary gateway for life force and energy. Adhering to specific traditional practices when opening this door, especially during the auspicious Brahma Muhurtham before sunrise, can significantly boost financial prosperity, family happiness, and overall positive energy within the household.
A crucial rule in Vastu is to never open the main door first in the morning. Instead, the kitchen door or the back door should be opened first to allow any negative energy accumulated overnight to escape, followed by the main door a few minutes later. Additionally, Vastu highly recommends having double doors of equal size—representing Lakshmi and Narayana—which should always be opened fully using both hands. Creaking sounds from the main door or the southwest corner room door should be avoided by using proper lubrication, as these sounds invite negative energy.
To invite Goddess Lakshmi into the home, the threshold of the main door should be swept clean every morning and sprinkled with water mixed with turmeric powder, which acts as a natural purifier and negative energy barrier. Touching the door frame, which is considered one of the sacred abodes of Lakshmi, and chanting “Om Mahalakshmyai Namah” three times daily brings immense blessings. Keeping the main door open for a while during dawn and dusk, and lighting lamps or offering camphor arati at the entrance, ensures that positive vibrations and prosperity flow into the household.
