Why Vasugi IAS Was Seen Behind the Governor at the Oath Ceremony

At the recent oath-taking ceremony of the Vidhi Satheesan ministry, many viewers noticed one familiar face standing close to the Governor and handling the oath file. That person was Dr. K. Vasuki IAS, now serving as the Governor’s secretary.

Vasuki’s presence drew attention because she was seen handing over the oath documents and interacting easily with the Governor. The clip quickly spread on social media, and many people searched for her name after seeing the ceremony visuals.

Her career has been marked by public service and key administrative roles. Before becoming Governor’s secretary, she served as the Public Education Secretary in the Education Department. She had earlier played an important role in making the 2016 oath ceremony plastic-free.

Vasuki, originally from Chennai, left her medical career after MBBS and entered civil service in 2008. She has said that she wanted to do something meaningful for society, and later realized that an IAS officer could serve people more broadly than a doctor.

She was first allotted to the Madhya Pradesh cadre and later moved to the Kerala cadre in 2013 after her husband, Dr. S. Karthikeyan, also joined civil service. In Kerala, she served as the Executive Director of the Swachh Mission and later as the Collector of Thiruvananthapuram.

During the 2018 floods, Vasuki was among the officials who helped coordinate relief and recovery efforts. That service, along with her current high-profile role, is why her appearance at the ceremony immediately became a talking point online.
