The newly formed UDF government in Kerala, led by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, has initiated strong administrative action to cancel political appointments and tenure extensions made by the previous LDF government. The decision comes in response to several political appointees refusing to vacate their positions in various public sector undertakings, boards, and corporations despite the change in power.
As a major first step, the government has cancelled the controversial tenure extension of Guruvayur Devaswom Board Administrator O.B.V. Arun Kumar. Arun Kumar, a CPM-backed service organization leader and former personal staff member of former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran, had his deputation extended by the previous Pinarayi Vijayan government until 2028. He has now been removed from his post and sent back to his parent department, the General Administration Department.
While some individuals, like film director K. Madhu, voluntarily resigned from their posts, many others continue to hold office. The Chief Secretary is currently preparing a comprehensive list of similar political appointments and last-minute tenure extensions across various state corporations and boards. The Satheesan government has indicated that more terminations and repatriations will follow in the coming days to restore administrative discipline.
