Ten Year Old Girl Saves Toddler From Drowning in Kothamangalam

In a remarkable act of bravery, a ten-year-old girl named Fathima Zehra saved a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler from drowning in a deep pond at Kappuchira in Kothamangalam. The toddler, who had come from Malappuram to visit relatives, had accidentally slipped into the deep water from the steps of the bathing ghat and was struggling for life before Fathima intervened.

Fathima was riding her bicycle nearby when she heard a neighbor cry out about someone drowning in the water. Without a second thought, she pushed her bicycle to the side of the road and jumped into the deep pond. She swam to the struggling child, held him close, and safely brought him back to the steps, even though the toddler had already lost consciousness.

Demonstrating immense presence of mind, Fathima immediately laid the unconscious child face down and patted his back to expel the swallowed water, successfully reviving him. Fathima had been trained in swimming by her father, Noufal, since she was four years old due to the proximity of the pond to their house. Her timely intervention and courage have brought her widespread appreciation from the local community and representatives.
