Aadhaar Card Date of Birth Correction | Important Update for Aadhaar Holders

If you hold an Aadhaar card, it is essential to ensure that your date of birth is accurate. UIDAI allows the date of birth on Aadhaar to be corrected only once in a lifetime, as it is considered a permanent detail that cannot be changed like name or address.

Only three types of documents are accepted for date of birth correction in Aadhaar:

  1. Birth Certificate — This is the primary document, but many people above 35-45 years may not have one.
  2. SSLC Certificate — Only the 10th standard (SSLC) pass certificate is accepted. Lower class certificates (5th or 6th standard) are not valid.
  3. Passport — Must be valid with at least six months of remaining validity. The name on the passport, including the surname, must exactly match the name on the Aadhaar card.

If the verified tick was marked during the initial Aadhaar enrollment, subsequent correction requests are often rejected. In such cases, you can apply at an Aadhaar enrollment centre or Akshaya centre, and if the request is rejected, you can email the application along with supporting documents and a declaration form to the UIDAI authority. Mention the difficulties you face (scholarship issues, admission problems) due to the incorrect date of birth.

Additionally, students who have completed 15 years of age must undergo mandatory biometric update in Aadhaar. This includes updating the photo and fingerprints. If done within one year of turning 15, this service is completely free at Akshaya centres or Aadhaar service centres. Failure to do this may result in Aadhaar deactivation and issues with higher education admissions, scholarships, and more.
