The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online Aadhaar update deadline by one year to June 14, 2027. This facility is available only for those updating their details through the UIDAI website. Individuals visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendras or Akshay centers will still have to pay the prescribed fee.
UIDAI has also introduced stricter rules. Anyone who has not updated their Aadhaar details for 10 years must do so now. For children, Aadhaar cards issued before age 5 must be updated with biometrics when the child turns 5, and those issued before 15 must be updated at 15. The mAadhaar app will soon be discontinued in favor of a new official Aadhaar app.
The new regulations categorize applicants into children, adults, senior citizens, NRIs, and transgender individuals, with specific documentation. Restrictions now apply: date of birth and gender can only be changed once in a lifetime, name can be changed twice. Failure to keep Aadhaar updated may result in disruption of benefits like PM Kisan, pensions, and subsidies.
