The Kollam Anchal police have arrested a 26-year-old woman and her female friend for setting fire to a policeman’s motorcycle. The incident was reportedly driven by revenge after the policeman backed out of a marriage alliance with the main accused.
The accused, identified as Aaradhi (26) from Sooranad and her friend Gayathri Mohan from Idukki, targeted the motorcycle of Vivek, a Civil Police Officer at the Aranmula police station. According to the police, Aaradhi and Vivek’s relationship had progressed close to a marriage fix before Vivek backed out. Distressed by this, Aaradhi, with the help of her close friend Gayathri, traveled to Vivek’s house in Anchal, waited near a local library, and set fire to his parked motorcycle during the night.
The police identified the suspects using CCTV footage and digital transaction records, as they had paid their autorickshaw fare via Google Pay. Following her arrest, Aaradhi attempted suicide by consuming poison while in custody but was saved. After her recovery, the police, led by Anchal CI Biju and SI Sreejesh, brought her to the crime scene for evidence collection amidst tight security and a large public gathering.
