Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Demands Answers From Former Minister Over School Campus Building Collapse

Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor V.V. Rajesh has demanded that former Education Minister V. Sivankutty explain the collapse of the Samagra Shiksha Kerala (SSK) office building located on the Attakulangara Government Central High School campus. The Mayor questioned why Rs 3 crore was spent on renovating an old structure that should have been demolished, and announced that the municipal corporation has ordered an investigation into the incident.

The roof of the building collapsed around 6:00 PM after students and teachers had left the school premises, preventing any casualties. Reacting to the incident, former minister V. Sivankutty termed the collapse extremely serious and called for a comprehensive probe, emphasizing the need to verify if the building had obtained a fitness certificate from the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

Meanwhile, Education Minister N. Shamsudheen clarified that the collapsed structure was not currently being used as a school classroom, but functioned as an SSK office. He stated that authorities would investigate where the lapse in fitness verification occurred and take strict action against those responsible, adding that a detailed report has been sought from the Deputy Director of Education (DDE).
