Film observer and actor Bayilvan Ranganathan has shared intriguing details about South Indian superstar Ajith Kumar’s early career, his marriage to actress Shalini, and his complex relationship with his family. Before rising to fame in Tamil cinema, Ajith worked as a medical representative and made his acting debut in Hyderabad before moving to Chennai to establish his career.

According to Ranganathan, Ajith’s marriage to Shalini on April 24, 2000, came at a time when Shalini was a top actress. While Shalini’s father initially hesitated, he agreed after Ajith promised to take good care of her. Following their marriage, Shalini retired from acting. Ranganathan noted that Ajith strongly believed he should not live off his wife’s earnings. Director Kamal also once revealed that during the Tamil remake of the movie Niram, Ajith insisted on wrapping up the shoot quickly, stating that Shalini would not act post-marriage, a decision Kamal speculated might have stemmed from an ego clash with co-star Prashanth.

Born to Balasubramaniam Iyer from Palakkad and a mother from Kolkata, Ajith reportedly had a strained relationship with his father, who stayed in his room during Ajith’s wedding ceremonies while his mother managed the events. Despite keeping his distance from his father, Ajith was deeply attached to his mother. When both of his parents passed away at different times, Ajith maintained a strict stance, asking the film industry to respect his privacy, though close friends like actor Vijay visited him to offer condolences.
