A one-hour spell of relentless heavy rain submerged the capital city under water on [date], turning major roads into streams and causing severe waterlogging. Pedestrians and vehicle users alike faced hardship as drains overflowed and sewage water flowed onto the streets.
Water levels rose knee-deep on many roads, forcing even large vehicles like KSRTC buses to move slowly through the water. Two-wheelers struggled to navigate, and pedestrians crossed roads with extreme caution to avoid slipping or falling into drains.
The worst-affected areas include Thampanoor and East Fort. Mayor V.V. Rajesh, responding to the situation, attributed the flooding to unscientific road construction and said that while the corporation has cleaned its roads and drains, the problem persists. He noted that the rain was accompanied by thunder and that water is draining normally within half an hour to 45 minutes in most places. However, he acknowledged that major issues remain in Thampanoor, requiring intervention from multiple departments including PWD and KRFB.
