Centuries-Old Metal Box with Rare Artifacts Discovered During Well Renovation in Kasaragod

During the renovation of an old well at an ancestral home in Trikaripur, Kasaragod, workers discovered a metal box containing centuries-old artifacts. The box was found secured to the wooden base (nellipalaka) at the bottom of the well at the Elambachi Thekkumbad Vadakkepurayil ancestral home.

Inside the metal box, the family discovered a human figurine, two turtle-shaped figures, and a thin gold plate. Preliminary estimates suggest that these rare items are at least 200 years old. It is believed that ancestors of the family might have placed the box there for specific tantric or ritualistic purposes during the well’s construction, aligning with an ancient custom of burying gold and valuables at the foundation of major structures.

The family members noticed the box while examining the remnants of the old wooden base that had been removed by the well workers. The family has decided to keep these rare historical artifacts safely at their ancestral home, and there is currently no official word on whether further archaeological examinations will be conducted.
