Chandy Oommen Reveals Truth About Not Being in Kerala Cabinet

After a 10-year gap, the UDF government led by the Indian National Congress assumed power in Kerala. When the cabinet formation was announced, one name conspicuously absent was Chandy Oommen, the young MLA from Puthuppally and son of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He has now broken his silence.

Chandy Oommen revealed that his name was never proposed at the party level for a ministerial position from the very beginning. The lists circulating in the media were fabricated by media outlets based on their own interests. He criticized the media for lacking responsibility when reporting news.

“I was not in the official list of ministers from the start. The media created that on their own,” Chandy Oommen stated. He questioned how a list of seven names could suddenly lose just one name, urging the media to examine their own motives.

He emphasized that the love of the people matters far more than positions of power. “The position of being Kerala’s son that the people have given me is greater than any ministerial post,” he said. He believes that winning people’s trust is the true success of a political worker.

On whether Puthuppally’s development would suffer without him in the cabinet, he clarified that Chief Minister VD Satheesan himself is Puthuppally’s minister. Development projects would proceed faster under the CM’s direct supervision.

His visit to senior Congress leader AK Antony was purely personal and familial, not about expressing disappointment over missing the cabinet post. He described Antony as a guiding light during crises.

Chandy Oommen also announced plans to expand the Oommen Chandy Foundation’s charitable activities across all 14 districts of Kerala, continuing his father’s legacy of public service. He remains committed to being among the people, working for their welfare.
