Chandy Oommen, who rode a bicycle throughout his election campaign for the Puthuppally by-election, continued his unique tradition by cycling to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the oath-taking ceremony. The rare sight captured the attention of everyone at the assembly premises.
The Puthuppally MLA was elected in the by-election following the passing of his father and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. True to his campaign style, Chandy Oommen chose the bicycle as his mode of transport for the first day of the assembly session as well.
This was the first assembly session after the UDF government assumed power. All MLAs, including three from the BJP, took their oaths during the session. The sight of Chandy Oommen arriving on a bicycle brought a refreshing and down-to-earth touch to the proceedings at the Kerala Legislative Assembly in Thiruvananthapuram.
