Oommen Chandy’s family has been widely loved by the people of Kerala across caste and religious lines. After Oommen Chandy’s passing, his family faced continuous attacks from within the party. Despite his father’s lifelong dedication to the Congress party — living and dying for it — Chandy Oommen was removed from his position as Outreach Cell Chairman on the very first death anniversary of his father, a move orchestrated by KC Venugopal.

Chandy Oommen responded to the controversy involving Abin Varkey, who was replaced as Vice President despite years of grassroots work. He emphasized that party discipline is paramount, especially during election season when the Congress is fighting against the LDF government under Pinarayi Vijayan. While acknowledging the natural disappointment felt by workers who are passed over, he stressed that the party’s decision is final and everyone must stand together.

He also addressed the Nimisha Priya case, revealing that businessman Sajan Latheef — involved from the beginning — reported positive progress and that a favorable response is expected. Chandy Oommen urged media and social media channels not to spread misleading messages about raising unlimited funds for the case.

The speech also touched on the Hagia Sophia controversy, where his earlier statement was twisted and turned into a controversy after 12 days by vested interests. He called on Congress workers not to believe every viral news clip and to verify before forming opinions.
