The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on the residences of opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan and the questioning of his daughter Veena Vijayan have brought renewed attention to the ‘Masappadi’ diary case. The diary, seized by the Income Tax department in 2019 from Kochi-based businessman Sasidharan Kartha, contains details of payments made to hundreds of politicians, religious leaders, and community figures.
According to the diary, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, and Industries Minister P.K. Kunjalikutty are among those who received money. The entries show Kunjalikutty receiving ₹20 lakh, Chennithala ₹5 lakh, and Satheesan ₹5 lakh. The diary also lists payments to former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, MP Virendra Kumar, and many others.
Only 26 pages of the 700-page diary have been made public so far, revealing payments totaling crores of rupees. The diary includes entries for political parties like UDF, LDF, and BJP, as well as payments to officials of the Pollution Control Board and other government departments. The case is currently under investigation by the ED, and there are concerns that further revelations could implicate more senior politicians.
