High Court Clears ED Probe in CMRL Pay-off Case: Major Blow to Veena Vijayan

The Kerala High Court division bench has cleared the way for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to proceed with its investigation into the CMRL monthly pay-off case. Rejecting the petitioners’ plea for a stay, the court ruled that the investigation is entirely legal and urged that there should be no further delay in the probe, delivering a major setback to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, T. Veena, and CMRL.

Following the crucial court verdict, ED Director Rahul Navin arrived in Kochi to lead a high-level meeting to plan the next steps. The court-mandated protection period against coercive actions for T. Veena ends today, allowing the central agency to proceed with full force. Speculation is rife that the ED may move towards questioning or taking Veena into custody if she fails to cooperate, with security and political circles closely watching her residences in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur.

The ED had previously conducted extensive raids across Kerala, reportedly securing crucial documents. While the ruling CPM has termed the probe a political vendetta and staged protests in various parts of the state, the legal clearance from the High Court has intensified the political climate. It remains to be seen whether the ED will initiate immediate arrest procedures or if Exalogic will approach the Supreme Court for relief.
