CPM Workers Denied Bail in ED Attack Case

A court in Thiruvananthapuram has denied bail to five CPM workers arrested for attacking ED officials after a raid at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence. The First Class Magistrate Court rejected the bail pleas, citing the seriousness of the offense and calling it a crime against the nation.

The prosecution argued that the ED officials were on duty until they returned to office, and the rented vehicle used by them should be considered an official vehicle. The court accepted these arguments, dismissing the defense’s claim that the attack occurred after duty hours and on a private vehicle. The court noted that the attack was premeditated, involving weapons like bricks, stones, and iron rods, and aimed at killing the officials. Police have arrested around 200 CPM workers so far and are searching for 200 more, with 300 identified in the case. The court warned that the case could be taken over by agencies like CBI, and UAPA charges may be added.
