CPM cyber groups have issued death threats against Joj, a senior cameraman with Jaihind TV who filmed the brutal assault by Pinarayi Vijayan’s gunmen on Youth Congress and KSU workers during the Navakerala Sadassu. The threats escalated following the decision to assign a special investigation team led by Shaukat Ali IPS to re-investigate the case.
Joj had captured the visuals of the CM’s personal security personnel mercilessly beating opposition workers while police stood by. These visuals, once aired by media, turned into a major political storm in the Kerala Assembly. Now, with a fresh investigation team reopening the case, the gunmen and those protecting them are on edge.
Phone calls started pouring in to Joj, first as warnings, then as open threats. Some came from known police officers offering friendly advice to step back from the case. Others were more direct: threats of being run over by lorries, of being finished off. The callers made it clear that if Joj withdrew, the case would collapse.
CPM cyber groups joined the chorus, openly calling for the cameraman to be eliminated. These groups have a history of issuing similar murder threats, especially after the CPM was relegated to the opposition in Kerala. Leaders like Pinarayi Vijayan and others have publicly distanced themselves from these groups, claiming no knowledge or connection, but they remain widely recognized as CPM front organizations.
Shaukat Ali and DYSP Baiju Paulose are no strangers to handling powerful criminals. Earlier, they had successfully prosecuted big names like Kodi Suni and actor Dileep. Their reputation for fearless investigation has rattled those behind the assault. The new investigation team is expected to not only pursue the assault case but also trace the police officers and political figures who are threatening the key witness.
The developments signal that Kerala politics is set for more turbulence. With the opposition now in power and a determined investigation underway, the days ahead may bring more revelations and accountability for those who believed they were above the law.
