CPM Faces Internal Revolt in Kollam Over Leadership Failures

The Kollam area committee meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) turned into an unprecedented internal revolt, with party workers openly criticizing top leadership including Pinarayi Vijayan and M.V. Govindan. The meeting saw strong demands for Vijayan’s resignation as Leader of Opposition following the party’s heavy defeat in the recent assembly elections, and sharp attacks on Govindan’s family politics and leadership style.

Workers expressed anger over the party’s handling of ED cases against the Chief Minister’s daughter, insisting that ordinary party members should not be used to shield her. They also criticized the lavish publicity campaign featuring Vijayan’s images, calling it a personality cult unbecoming of a communist party, and demanded an inquiry into the PR agency hired for the purpose.

The meeting highlighted deep discontent over the party’s electoral defeat, the lack of internal democracy, and the leadership’s failure to address local issues in Kannur. Workers warned that if corrective measures are not taken, the party’s decline would be complete.
