CPM Leader Accused of Brutally Assaulting Heart Patient Over Traffic Dispute in Wayanad

A local CPM leader in Wayanad has been accused of brutally assaulting Naushad, a heart patient, after he refused to reverse his car to make way for the leader’s vehicle, which was driving on the wrong side of the road. The incident took place on October 26 on the Kambalakkad road in Wayanad.

According to Naushad’s family, the CPM leader blocked Naushad’s car and demanded he back up because the road on the other side was in poor condition. When Naushad refused, the leader damaged his car door, grabbed him by the neck, and slammed his head onto the bonnet while threatening to kill him. Despite Naushad pleading that he had undergone an angioplasty just a month prior, the attacker continued the assault and pushed him onto a roadside stone.

The family also alleged severe apathy from the Kalpetta police. Naushad was reportedly made to wait at the police station from 10 AM to 5 PM to record his statement, with the initial officer refusing to write down the full details of the assault. The statement was finally recorded late in the evening after local public representatives intervened. Although an FIR has been registered, the family expressed dissatisfaction with the weak charges filed against the accused and vowed to pursue legal action.
