The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team that visited former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence in Thiruvananthapuram on a搜查 was attacked by a mob, raising serious questions about police complicity. The attack, which left female ED officers and the driver injured, occurred despite CRPF security and police assurances of safe passage. Central agencies now suspect that a conspiracy involving senior police officials enabled the assault.
Intelligence reports indicate that a police officer with known Left sympathies, who was in charge of security arrangements, may have facilitated the attack. The officer, identified as the president of the Kerala Police Officers Association and currently posted as SHO at Museum station, was seen in friendly conversation with CPM councilors during the incident. The state police’s failure to prevent the attack, despite having over 100 personnel on site, has led to demands for a CBI investigation.
The Union Home Ministry is reportedly considering transferring the case to the CBI, dismissing the state police’s probe as a sham. The central agency’s investigation is expected to bring both the attackers and the police officials who aided them to justice. The incident has sparked a political storm in Kerala, with allegations that the attack was a deliberate attempt to undermine constitutional institutions.
