In a devastating tragedy, a newlywed Malayali commercial pilot, Dave Fiji, and his helicopter pilot were killed in a helicopter crash in Dawsonville, Georgia, just hours after his wedding. His bride, Jasni, a nurse from Thiruvalla, miraculously survived the crash but remained trapped in the wreckage for nearly five hours before being rescued.
The accident occurred on Friday night when the couple boarded a Robinson helicopter to travel to a five-star hotel following their wedding ceremony at The Riviera auditorium. Despite heavy rain, dense fog, and low visibility, the helicopter pilot assured the couple that they could safely fly above the weather, ignoring Dave’s professional warnings. Dave, a Delta Airlines pilot originally from Muvattupuzha, had reportedly expressed strong reservations about flying in such adverse weather conditions shortly before boarding.
After the helicopter crashed in a remote forested area, Jasni regained consciousness after five hours to find her husband deceased. Showing immense courage despite her severe injuries, Jasni used her phone to call 911, which guided rescue teams through the difficult terrain to the crash site. She was rushed to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the crash.
